This was one metal band that could easily be enjoyed across the wide and
varied rock music spectrum.

Classy guitar riffs together with a solid and powerful bass and drum set
gave this band an equally powerful and edgy feel whilst the band's lead
singer provided their set with melodic charm.

It is at this point of the review that I should point out that for me this
band were somewhat of a cross between "Evanescence" and "All About Eve". Not
being sure what the band's musical influences are, their set was most
certainly infectious and undeniably filled with the sort of musical passion
and drive which is the mark of any great band.

For those amongst us in the rock fraternity who often complain that Metal is
just about noise. Then this was one band to make you think again!

In fact this was a band with a little bit of everything from the beautiful
melodic vocal tones of the band's lead singer Heidi to the driving hard
beats enjoyed by all true metal-heads. Add to this some serious musical
talent and an accomplished stage presence; in which it is only fair to say,
that their lead singer held the audience in the palm of her hand and what
you have is a band that can easily transcend musical boundaries whilst being
true to the music and to themselves.

Unlike a lot of Metal bands around at the moment, this band were like a
breath of fresh air, neither being too repetitive or too confrontational
whilst still delivering the goods with warmth, energy and raw power.

One hell of a class act!

It was a most welcome back to Esquires for the Cambridge based band Self-Inflicted. Having seen them play in October 2005, it was great to learn that the band seem to be going from strength to strength with regular gigs in their home town. They have also been busy recording a four-track demo. With the haunting and hypnotic presence of vocalist Heidi at the forefront of the band, her vocal pitch fluctuates and fragments into so many different spheres of the rock range. She sometimes appears to be in a self-induced trance as her willowy dance leads her fellow band members to bring a high degree of power and purpose to their playing. This combination is fully demonstrated on the track 'Porcelain' and during 'Obsolete' Heidi collapses to her knees as if begging or pleading. It all adds to the dramatic empathy of the song. The deep bass into for penultimate song 'Voodoo Conspiracy' is also perfect for a song full of atmospheric suspense.

Opening are Self-Inflicted. Based in Cambridge, they have recently supported The Suffrajets and cites their influences as Metallica and Pantera. However, there is a haunting goth-like look and sound to their live show, something like Evannessence crossed with Juliette and the Licks! They play a splendidly euphonic set with the songs ‘Porcelain’ and ‘No Sacrifice’ particularly standing out.

Hey guys,

Steve here from HUMANITY. Just wanted to congratulate you all on a first
rate performance last night at the Man on the Moon. You made a very good impression on  a lot of people, myself included.
Having only briefly heard the demo versions of the songs, i found them to be very strong in the live environment. I listened with a critical ear and couldn't honestly find a weak
point in the set. To me, ‘Never the same’ is your strongest song.
Performance wise, I thought the band as a whole looked comfortable in their
roles, taking into account that this was your 6th gig (I believe). Dom told
me afterwards that the band are growing in confidence with every show and
that is a very encouraging thing to hear as it is reflected in the show.
Heidi carries the show very well, as both a vocalist and a performer. She
certainly didn't appear to struggle to get over the band. I thought the
drummer was very good, great timekeeping throughout the show, tasteful fills
and kept the band in check. Guitar work was good from both players, really
good ideas and strong riffs (couldn't hear the guy with the SG much but
that's the engineer, not the band). Bren looked comfortable and certainly
enjoyed himself, and really locked in with the drummer, the most important
thing for a bass player to do.
So, that's my honest opinion of the show I saw last night, and like I said,
you made a good first impression on both myself and a lot of people.
Steve.
